FOIA Request to Colorado Mesa University Regarding Chinese National Students on June 3, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in governmental affairs, we at the Grand Junction Times have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Colorado Mesa University. This request seeks detailed information concerning Chinese National students currently enrolled at the university.
Our inquiry specifically requests documents or lists that identify all current students who are Chinese Nationals, including their respective departments of study. If privacy concerns prevent the release of individual names, we have asked for aggregated data showing the total number of such students broken down by department.
Additionally, we are seeking information about scholarships awarded to these students. We have requested details on each scholarship’s amount and its source. In particular, we are interested in any scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council and how they intersect with other financial aid provided by the university.
Furthermore, our request includes a call for any existing policies or procedures that outline how Colorado Mesa University monitors its students—specifically Chinese Nationals—to safeguard intellectual property and other confidential information.
This FOIA request is made not only in our capacity as a media organization but also on behalf of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. As advocates for open government, we believe access to public records is vital for holding institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public. We have requested a fee waiver based on our role in disseminating this important information to the community.
We look forward to receiving a prompt response from Colorado Mesa University and will continue to keep our readers informed as this story develops.
