The City of Grand Junction announced on May 8 a series of projects that will affect traffic patterns and cause travel restrictions during the week of May 11, 2026.
The city reports that several roadways will see closures, lane shifts, and detours as work is conducted on sidewalks, capacity improvements, and other infrastructure projects. Motorists are advised to plan extra time for travel and follow all posted signs and directions from traffic control personnel.
Among the major projects is the Four Canyons Parkway Project. The intersection of 25 Road and Patterson Road will have limited closure beginning Friday evening at 7 p.m., continuing through Monday morning at 7 a.m. Single lanes will remain open during this period. Additional closures include sections of both 25 Road and 24¾ Road with detours in place.
Other city-led projects include D½ Road capacity improvements requiring closure between roads 29 to 30, sidewalk work along Patterson Road near Matchett Park resulting in pedestrian detours, Crosby Avenue improvements with closure through September from West Main Street to American Way (open only to local traffic), Aspen Street waterline replacement causing daytime road closures between Unaweep Avenue and Highway 50, Hermosa Safe Routes to School project closing Hermosa Avenue between streets 12th and 13th (local access only), and Redlands Parkway bike path improvement reducing the parkway to one lane while crews are present.
Non-city projects also impact local travel. The Colorado Department of Transportation’s I-70B Phase 7 construction restricts portions of downtown streets including single-lane operations on Fifth Street between South Avenue and Colorado Avenue all week; Ute Avenue closures continue; Fourth Street is reduced to one lane between Colorado and Pitkin avenues. Business and residential access remains open throughout these works. Additionally, CDOT’s CO-340 resurfacing project brings single right-lane closures on the eastbound bridge during weekday working hours from Monday through Friday.
A new roundabout project at South Broadway and Twenty-Third Road begins May 11. More information about these partner projects can be found online.
