The City of Grand Junction announced on May 1 a series of projects that will affect local traffic during the week of May 4, 2026. Several city and non-city construction efforts will require lane closures, detours, and other travel restrictions.

These projects are expected to impact commuters throughout the city as work continues on road improvements and infrastructure upgrades. Drivers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for travel due to these changes.

Among the city projects, Patterson Road will see eastbound traffic reduced from two lanes to one between 25 Road and 25½ Road starting Monday through the end of the week. Additional shoulder closures and lane shifts will occur at Patterson Road’s intersection with 25 Road. The Four Canyons Parkway Project involves a closure on 25 Road from Blichmann to Waite Avenue until early May, as well as a closure on 24¾ Road from Apex Avenue northbound. Temporary roadways and detours are in place in these areas.

D½ Road will be closed from 29 to 30 Roads for capacity improvements, with San Juan access also closed; only local traffic is permitted. On Patterson Road at Matchett Park, sidewalks along the north side between 28¼ and 28¾ Roads are closed with pedestrian detours available for the remainder of this project. Lane shifts may occur here as well.

Non-city projects include Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) work such as I-70B Phase 7 Construction, which reduces Fifth Street to one lane between South Avenue and Colorado Avenue all week. Ute Avenue closures continue along with single-lane reductions on Fourth Street between Colorado and Pitkin Avenues; business and residential access remains open during this period. CDOT’s CO-340 resurfacing project also brings single right-lane closures eastbound from Monday through Friday during working hours (7 a.m.–7 p.m.).

Additionally, construction is set to begin early May at South Broadway and Twenty-third Road for a new roundabout project.

Residents are encouraged by officials to exercise caution when driving near construction zones by following posted signs or directions given by personnel.
