How many Mesa County Valley School District No. 51 students were suspended and expelled during 2022-23 school year?

During the 2022-23 school year, school administrators in Mesa County Valley School District No. 51 handed out 4,260 disciplinary actions, according to the Colorado Department of Education. That’s an increase over the previous school year.

Overall, there were a total of 4,147 suspensions handed out to students, and 113 expulsions.

White students suffered the most disciplinary actions (67.4%), followed by Hispanic or Latino students (27.3%), multiracial students (3.3%), and Black students (0.8%).

In comparison, Hispanic or Latino students made up 24.4%, white students accounted for 70.4%, Black students for 0.5%, Asian students for 0.8%, multiracial students for 3.7%, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander students for 0.2% of overall enrollment in Mesa schools during 2022-23.

Colorado lawmakers approved a $43.9 billion budget for 2025-26 that increases funding for K-12 schools and higher education, though by less than originally promised due to a $1.2 billion shortfall.
