Larchwood INNS was the leading nursing home in Mesa County by size during the first quarter of 2026, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.

The facility offered 130 beds, 42 more than the Mesa County average for this reporting period. It cared for an average of 101 residents each day during Q1 2026.

The CMS awarded Larchwood INNS an overall rating of 2 out of 5, below the statewide facility average of 3.2 for Colorado nursing homes.

LA Villa Grande Care Center ranked second among Mesa County facilities, making 96 beds available in Q1, while Red Cliffs Post Acute was third with 89 beds.

Larchwood INNS incurred 2 fines totaling $37,680 and received 2 penalties during the first quarter of 2026.

There were 7 for-profit nursing homes operating in Mesa County, Colorado.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau show that the senior population continues to increase as the populations of younger age groups drop. From 2020 to 2024, the number of residents age 65 and older grew by 13%, while the group younger than 18 fell by 1.7%. Over the last century, the nation’s older adult population rose significantly, from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A study published in 2021 finds that nearly half of older adults—about 28 million people—are projected to need long-term services and support, and over a third could eventually require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
