Rep. Jeff Hurd, a U.S. Congressman representing Colorado’s 3rd district, has recently addressed several issues through his social media posts, ranging from wildfire threats in Colorado to legislative ethics and the legacy of a state senator.
On January 13, 2026, Rep. Hurd highlighted the state’s environmental and logistical vulnerabilities by stating, “Colorado’s geography presents unique challenges. Forested mountain terrain, four national parks, and critical interstate and rail corridors that move millions of tons of freight each year all face an escalating wildfire threat. Early detection is essential to protect lives,”.
The following day, on January 14, 2026, Rep. Hurd paid tribute to a late colleague: “Colorado State Senator Entz was a devoted public servant—serving the San Luis Valley, our state, and our country with distinction. He was a veteran, a steadfast advocate for #CO03 communities, and a friend to many. His memory lives on through his four children and the countless”.
Later that same day, Rep. Hurd announced his support for new legislation aimed at curbing insider trading among lawmakers: “I’m an original co-sponsor of H.R. 7008, the Stop Insider Trading Act, which prohibits Members of Congress from trading individual stocks.
Public trust in our institutions matters. This bill draws a clear line and reinforces the principle that public service should never be”.
Wildfires have been an increasing concern in Colorado due to climate change and drought conditions affecting forested areas and transportation routes vital for commerce across the state.
The Stop Insider Trading Act is part of ongoing efforts within Congress to address concerns about ethical conduct among federal lawmakers by restricting their ability to trade individual stocks while in office.
Senator Entz served as both a veteran and advocate for rural Colorado communities before his passing; his contributions are remembered by colleagues like Rep. Hurd who emphasize public service values.
