Rep. Jeff Hurd, U.S. Representative for Colorado’s 3rd congressional district, has recently highlighted legislative actions on water management and rural education funding through a series of posts on his social media account.

On December 9, 2025, Hurd addressed the importance of data in water management: “We cannot manage what we cannot measure.” He spoke on the House floor in support of his bill, the Snow Water Supply Forecasting Reauthorization Act, emphasizing its significance for families, ranchers, and water managers across Colorado’s 3rd district.

The following day, December 10, he announced progress on another key issue for his constituents: “Last week, I joined colleagues urging House leadership to reauthorize Secure Rural Schools—a program critical to #CO03 counties. Tonight, it passed. Read my statement below.” The Secure Rural Schools program provides essential funding to rural counties with federal forest lands that do not generate local property tax revenue.

Later that same day, Hurd shared an update on his snowpack forecasting legislation: “Today, my bill the Snow Water Supply Forecasting Reauthorization Act passed the House. This is a big win for #CO03.

Critical water decisions across our district depend on snowpack forecasts – when to irrigate, how to prepare for drought, how much water we’ll have. We’re still”

The Snow Water Supply Forecasting Reauthorization Act aims to continue federal efforts in measuring and predicting snowpack levels in western states like Colorado—an important factor influencing regional agriculture and municipal planning. Reliable snowpack data helps inform decisions about irrigation schedules and drought preparedness.

The Secure Rural Schools program was originally enacted in 2000 as a response to declining timber revenues from national forests. It provides financial assistance for schools and public services in rural communities adjacent to these lands.

Both legislative actions reflect ongoing priorities within Colorado’s 3rd district regarding resource management and support for rural infrastructure.
