Rep. Jeff Hurd, a U.S. Congressman, recently used his social media platform to address topics ranging from the history and role of the National Guard to incidents of violence abroad and military sacrifice.

On December 13, 2025, Rep. Hurd posted about the anniversary of the National Guard: “389 years ago, local citizens picked up arms to protect their communities. That’s still what the National Guard does today — ordinary people doing extraordinary work when it matters most.

On this National Guard birthday, Barbora and I are especially mindful of Sergeant Andrew https://t.co/SDDh8RNSkZ“.

The following day, December 14, 2025, he commented on an attack in Sydney targeting Jewish communities: “The attack in Sydney is a stark reminder that antisemitism and violence targeting Jewish communities remain a global concern. Hatred like this has no place in any society. My thoughts are with the victims and their families.

Later on December 14, Rep. Hurd reflected on recent losses suffered by U.S. service members stationed in Syria: “The loss of U.S. service members in Syria is a solemn reminder of the sacrifice our men and women in uniform make every day, in dangerous places around the world. Their courage and service deserve our deepest respect, and our thoughts are with their families and loved ones. https://t.co/9M6QZQsqMB”.

The National Guard was established as a colonial militia force nearly four centuries ago and continues to play an important role as part-time citizen soldiers responding to both domestic emergencies and overseas deployments.

Incidents such as attacks against Jewish communities have raised concerns among officials worldwide regarding rising antisemitism and targeted violence.

U.S. military operations in regions like Syria involve ongoing risks for American personnel deployed far from home—a reality frequently acknowledged by lawmakers who emphasize honoring these sacrifices.
