DU was recognized by The Princeton Review as one of the best universities in the country in its annual rankings. In addition to recognizing the University for its academics, faculty excellence and proximity to both the city of Denver and the mountains, The Princeton Review ranked the Anderson Academic Commons as the country’s best college library.

University of Denver Researchers Study the Impact of Long COVID
Faculty from the Daniel Felix Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science, College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and Graduate School of Professional Psychology partnered this year to study the effects and some possible treatments to long COVID. For this work, the faculty and student researchers are building off more than six years of research surrounding the effects of concussions.

University of Denver Hockey Wins NCAA National Championship
In April, the University of Denver won its ninth national championship, tying the University of Michigan for the most in college hockey history. The Pioneers defeated Minnesota State 5-1 in Boston, Massachusetts. David Carle became the youngest head coach to win a national championship since 1963 and the fourth youngest ever.

Condoleezza Rice Introduced as Member of Denver Broncos’ Ownership Group
In August, news broke that Walmart heir Rob Walton would be purchasing the Denver Broncos from the family of Pat Bowlen, a former member of DU’s Board of Trustees, for $4.65 billion. Walton created the Walton-Penner ownership group, which consists of several members including DU alumna Condoleezza Rice, former secretary of state in the George W. Bush administration.

Death in Iran: How Mahsa Amini’s Story Sparked a Feminist Backlash
In September, Mahsa Amini died three days after she was arrested by Iran’s so-called morality police for not wearing her hijab, a traditional Muslim face covering, in accordance with the regime’s standards. Her death sparked months of protests in Iran. Reza Mehraeen, a PhD student at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies, and Nader Hashemi, a Korbel professor and founding director of the Center for Middle East Studies, joined the RadioEd podcast to discuss the situation.

A Green Roof Brings Beauty and Eco Benefits to the Community Commons
When the University of Denver opened the Community Commons in 2021, the fourth-floor exterior deck featured an expansive green space with plants native to Colorado. The green roof, which draws attention away from the neighboring houses and other built structures, complements the University’s plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.
