Due to the unexpected deterioration of water lines, the Adams State University Residence at Rex apartments have been offline since last May. That, however, will change with repairs and upgrades to infrastructure to be completed by the fall semester, 2023.

“Residence at Rex, our showpiece dormitory and one that you need to qualify to live in, needed to be taken offline as manufacturer defects in plumbing materials caused damage to the facility,” noted Mark Pittman, assistant director of housing. “It’s a very unfortunate situation we’re in, but we’re moving forward with the necessary repairs and upgrades. Our students deserve it.”

Completed in 2012, Residence at Rex is the newest living facility on the Adams State campus, housing 68 students at full capacity with 17 four-bedroom suites.

“These problems first surfaced not long after the building was completed,” said Kevin Daniel, Executive Director of Infrastructure and Resources. “There were a number of small leaks that were handled properly by Adams State facilities staff and external contractors. This past spring, though, the leaks were significant and untenable, leading to the decision to focus on a building-wide repair.”

Repairs will include replacement of the faulty plumbing lines, repairs to damaged drywall, paint, and other water-damaged surfaces.
