Western Slope History Day brings students from across the region to Grand Junction to compete
Each spring, Colorado Mesa University upper division social and behavioral sciences students, faculty and community members serve as judges during the annual Western Slope History Day.
The event is one of the qualifying competitions for History Day, a national competition that provides students in grades 6-12 with a unique opportunity to learn about historical issues, ideas, people and events.
CMU hosts the Western Slope division of the competition where middle and high school students select a topic based on the annual theme, do in-depth and balanced research, and develop a documentary, exhibit, performance, historical paper, and website for competition entry. At each level of competition, students present their entries and are interviewed by judges.
The event starts at 9am on Saturday, March 10 in Houston Hall 200-202. The competition goes throughout the day culminating with an awards ceremony at 3pm.
Winners at the local competition go on to compete at the state level in Denver. Winners at the state level later compete at the National History Day competition in Maryland.
